Colombo: India on Friday assured continued support to Sri Lanka’s economic rebuilding and, in turn, got word from Colombo that its territory will not be allowed to be used in a manner inimical to New Delhi’s security interests.

Earlier, Sri Lanka's newly elected President Anura Kumara Dissanayake had said that the nation does not wish to be sandwiched, especially between China and India, indicating a strong and independent approach on his foreign policy.

Sri Lankan President Dissanayake assured India's foreign minister, S Jaishankar, that Sri Lanka will not allow its territory to threaten India's security. They emphasized the intertwined security and economic interests of both nations.
