Peter Dodge, who was involved in research as a NOAA Hurricane Hunter, died last year. On Tuesday, as a tribute to his life’s work, his ashes were deposited in the eye of the hurricane.

Hurricane Milton made landfall near Siesta Key, Florida at about 8:30 p.m. ET Wednesday night, according to the National Hurricane Center, arriving after officials repeatedly sounded the alarm on the dire threat the powerful storm poses to those in its path.
