TGI Fridays is nearing a pivotal rescue deal for its British operations, a move that could secure more than 2,000 jobs across the popular restaurant

The latest casualty of high street cuts and changing habits has seen more than 1,000 jobs cut and 35 restaurants shut in the latest development of a huge brand.

More than 1,000 TGI Fridays' UK staff will be made redundant despite a rescue deal from the owners of restaurant group D&D London. They have bought the UK operator of the American-themed chain, after its owner fell into administration last month.

TGI Fridays will remain on UK high streets following a rescue deal for the chain, but more than 1,000 staff have lost their jobs with the immediate closure of 35 restaurants. Breal Capital and Calveton UK have acquired 51 restaurants, after the group’s previous operator fell into administration.

Nearly 2,400 jobs at TGI Fridays' UK business have been saved after the American-themed restaurant chain secured a rescue deal. Breal Capital and Calveton have agreed to buy the chain whose UK owner fell into administration last month.

More than 50 TGI Fridays restaurants have been rescued - including its Stoke-on-Trent site. A rescue deal for the troubled restaurant chain has been struck with its venue on Etruria Road, in Hanley, among those remaining open.

The deal would look to save 55 of the 87 restaurants that will have to close, so despite some TGI Fridays being able to stay open, over 1000 jobs would be lost.
