CHENNAI: Workers at Samsung’s plant near Chennai on Wednesday decided to end their strike, which lasted more than a month, and return to work on Thurs.

BENGALURU - Workers of Samsung Electronics’ Indian unit have decided to end a strike at its factory in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, the company said on Oct 15, bringing to an end a labour protest that had continued for more than a month.

According to an announcement from the Tamil Nadu Labour Department, following directives from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and other officials, representatives from different departments held discussions with relevant stakeholders.

Over a month-long indefinite strike by the employees of Samsung India Electronics Ltd at its plant near here was called off on Tuesday and the workers have decided to resume work, the Tamil Nadu government said.

The strike, which began on 9 September, was initiated by workers demanding higher wages, shorter working hours, and formal recognition of Samsung India Workers' Union (SIWU).
