TCL and T-Mobile have announced a new hotspot device which utilizes 5G RedCap technology to offer affordable 5G access.

T-Mobile and TCL's new Linkport IK511 is a compact 5G adapter for laptops or tablets that connects via USB-C. There are no complex controls — just a device that plugs in and uses a web interface for settings, designed to be a laptop accessory.

TCL announced the LINKPORT IK511 this week, the company’s first swing at a 5G RedCap device. If you didn’t know about 5G RedCap (otherwise known as 5G Reduced Capability), it’s designed for IoT devices that don’t need the full power of what 5G can deliver.
