Maryland’s sports betting market hit an all-time high in September 2024, with bettors wagering a record $532.9 million, driven by the start of the NFL season and increased excitement around the Washington Commanders. The state collected $9.4 million in tax revenue, nearly triple the $3.2 million generated during the same month last year.

Per the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Agency, sportsbooks combined for an outstanding 25.2% hold on parlay wagers in September. That was enough for $50.3 million in gross sports betting revenue. Maryland’s overall haul between all state operators was $65.

This marks the first-time attendees and fans of the event will have the opportunity to engage in sports wagering and the first-ever opportunity for sports betting of equestrian Eventing in the U.S.

Maryland sports bettors wagered more than $500 million in September, which helped the state set a monthly record for tax revenue creation.
