Big Lots is closing another three MD stores, a report said. Nearly 500 locations have shuttered amid the company's bankruptcy and sale.

The Columbus, Ohio-based company added 46 additional stores to the growing list of locations closing across the country, according to WBNS, the CBS affiliate in Columbus. Big Lots, which sells furniture, decor and other items filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in early September .

Big Lots started the year with nearly 1,400 locations, but will end it with less than 1,000 – the lowest number of stores the discount chain has had in decades. The new additions put the closing tally up to 450 stores.

Retailer Big Lots has filed for bankruptcy protection, with private equity company Nexus Capital Management set to buy the company for $760 million.
